Ministry of Interior to Investigate Corruption in Local Government Exams

Bangkok: The Ministry of Interior is set to launch an investigation into five civil servants from the Local Administration Department, suspected of facilitating corruption in local government examinations. The action follows a decision by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry to sign an order initiating disciplinary measures against these officials.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, has confirmed the involvement of high-ranking officials in the alleged misconduct. A fact-finding committee, led by Mr. Santithorn Yimlamai, Deputy Permanent Secretary, revealed that the five individuals are suspected of disciplinary misconduct. The Ministry plans to establish a disciplinary investigation committee to address the allegations. Possible consequences for those found guilty range from salary reductions and probation to dismissal, particularly if corruption is proven.

The Permanent Secretary further indicated that the Ministry's Discipline and Civil Servant Performance Enhancement Division is in the process of preparing the disciplinary investigation order, which will specifically name the involved individuals.
