Bangkok: The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has announced the opening of agencies across the nation as rest stops for travelers during the Songkran holiday period. This initiative aims to support the general public and vulnerable groups as they travel during the Thai New Year celebrations in 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, emphasized the significance of the Songkran Festival, which includes National Elderly Day on April 13 and Family Day on April 14. He extended his well-wishes to families, encouraging them to cherish time together, fostering strong family bonds within Thai society.
The ministry has urged travelers to prioritize safety by driving carefully, abstaining from alcohol, and avoiding drowsy driving. To aid in safe and comfortable travel, the ministry’s teams across all provinces will provide rest stops along main and secondary roads. These stops will offer parking, restrooms accessible for the disabled and elderly, rest areas with refreshments, and advice on social welfare rights.
Rest stops have been strategically set up in various regions. In the northern region, facilities such as Homeless Protection Centers and Elderly Social Welfare Development Centers are available. The central region includes shelters and development centers for children, families, and the elderly. The western region features disability protection and development centers, while the northeastern region offers numerous shelters and career development centers. In the south, travelers can find homeless protection centers and children’s shelters. The eastern region provides facilities such as development centers for the disabled and children.
The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security assures travelers of its commitment to support them during the holiday. For urgent assistance, the public can contact the Center for Accelerated Public Welfare Management via the ministry’s hotline, available 24 hours a day, at 1300.
