Ministry of Transport and Siriraj Hospital Plan Medical Park Near Thonburi Station

Bangkok:The Ministry of Transport and Siriraj Hospital are in talks to develop a medical park on 21 rai of railway land near Thonburi Station, with a focus on elevating healthcare services to international standards.

According to Thai News Agency, a joint working group will be established to design the area. Mr. Sanphet Bunyamanee, Deputy Minister of Transport, met with Prof. Dr. Keerati Charoencholvanich, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and SRT Asset Co., Ltd., to discuss the development framework. The project aims to transform the Thonburi Station area, owned by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), into a comprehensive medical and health center to expand service capabilities and meet increasing healthcare demand.

The proposed development includes a Rehabilitation Center, a Wellness Center, and residential areas to create a comprehensive healthcare system. This system will focus on medical treatment, rehabilitation, and promoting long-term health and quality of life, accommodating both Thai citizens and international patients.

Siriraj Hospital currently faces space and capacity limitations due to a high patient volume. Its core service network, including multiple hospitals and a medical center, employs approximately 23,000 personnel, necessitating plans for expanding service capacity. The medical park is seen as a crucial step in utilizing Siriraj's medical expertise to provide comprehensive services that meet international standards.

Participants in the meeting also discussed efficient land use strategies for the State Railway of Thailand's property, considering Siriraj's land requirements, project development models, and appropriate land management approaches. These considerations aim to ensure that the land development aligns with relevant criteria and regulations for successful implementation.
