Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport is appealing to bus operators to maintain current fare prices to help ease the cost of living for citizens. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, disclosed the establishment of a War Room by the Ministry to monitor the effects of the ongoing unrest in the Middle East. This center will supervise transport operators to ensure that fare and freight charges do not exceed legal limits. The Ministry has urged all transport operators to maintain fare prices while the government holds domestic diesel prices steady to lessen living expenses for the public.
According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry has instructed its agencies to hasten the enforcement of strict monitoring measures across all transportation systems. The Marine Department, in particular, has been tasked with monitoring water transport, ensuring passenger and cargo boat operators do not impose excessive fees, and keeping a close watch on international cargo rates. This follows reports of a proposed fare increase by the Saen Saep canal boats, which plan to raise fares by 1 baht per segment, changing the range from 11-21 baht to 12-22 baht based on distance.
Mr. Kritphet Chaiyachue, Director-General of the Marine Department, stated that they are in close coordination with operators, such as Krobkrua Transport (2002) Co., Ltd., the company managing passenger boats on Khlong Saen Saep. He confirmed that no fare increase has occurred, as any adjustment must adhere to the Committee for Consideration of Regular Ferry Services' announcements, as published in the Royal Gazette, taking into account factors like fuel costs.
The Ministry of Transport reiterated its commitment to managing all areas of the transportation system to maintain price stability and build public confidence during this period of global uncertainty.
