Edmonton: Miyu Yamashita, the diminutive Japanese professional golfer, made history in the world of golf after a dominant performance that secured the championship at the CPKC Women's Open, Canada's national golf tournament, held at Royal Mayfair in Edmonton.

According to Thai News Agency, the 150cm tall pro golfer finished the final day with an 8-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th hole, adding 4 under par 66 to her four-day total score of 23 under par (257). This matched Kim Sei-young's record for the lowest 72-hole total score in LPGA Tour history set at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in 2018.

Yamashita's performance propelled her nine strokes ahead of the second-place finisher, breaking Jin Young Ko's previous record of 262 strokes set in 2019. She had broken records in both the 36-hole and 54-hole rounds throughout the week. This marks her fourth LPGA Tour victory, each won in a different country, following her wins at the Meijer LPGA Classic (USA), the Women's British Open (Wales), and the Maybank Championship (Malaysia).

The runner-up position went to Yuri Yoshida, who shot a 69 to finish with a score of 14 under par, while Kim Sei Young took third place with a 67 at 13 under par.

Among other notable performances, Brooke Henderson, a two-time former champion, finished at 7 under par, and Nelly Korda, the world number one, closed at 5 under par.

Additionally, that week was significant as it was the final event for calculating automatic qualification for the USA in the Solheim Cup. Alicen Corpuz, Andrea Lee, and Alison Lee had already secured their places on the team to compete against Europe in the Netherlands before team captain Angela Stanford announced the additional qualifying spots on Monday.
