Bangkok: The stadium was packed! The crowd was overflowing with spectators for the 7-a-side football final between Monthong Wittaya School and Chai Nat Provincial Administrative Organization School.
According to Thai News Agency, the 7-a-side student football tournament final at Supachalasai Stadium marked a historic moment as Monthong Wittaya School from Chachoengsao Province faced off against Chainat Provincial Administrative Organization School. The event drew the largest crowd for a school football tournament in 30 years, with fans filling the stadium for the first time since the King’s Cup in 1993.
Ajarn Sakon Kliangprasert, the football coach at Monthong Wittaya School in Monthong Subdistrict, Bang Nam Priao District, led his team to the final, driving his old four-wheeled truck to the tournament. The team advanced to the final after defeating a renowned school in the short-sleeved student football world. At Supachalasai Stadium, fans from both teams packed the venue, which has 19,793 seats. The crowd overflowed onto the running track, with an estimated 30,000 fans in attendance, and many more were unable to enter the stadium. This was the first time in the history of student football that such a large crowd had gathered, breaking a record set 30 years ago during the semi-finals of the 24th King’s Cup on December 2, 1993, when an estimated 60,000-70,000 fans attended a match involving the Thai national team.
