MP Kamolsak Seeks Prime Minister’s Intervention Following Assassination Attempt

Bangkok: MP Kamolsak Leewamae has taken a significant step by submitting confidential information to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, expressing his belief that a plot has been orchestrated to harm or even kill him. Fearing for his safety, Kamolsak has requested witness protection, highlighting his concern for his life.

According to Thai News Agency, Kamolsak, who represents Constituency 5 in Narathiwat Province under the Prachachart Party, disclosed this alarming development after a meeting with the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior at the Prime Minister's residence in Sri Yala. The meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister's Chief Advisor, Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor Matha.

Kamolsak expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister for directing relevant agencies to address the case involving gunmen who shot at him in front of his residence. This swift action led to the issuance of arrest warrants for five suspects, four of whom have already been apprehended. The Prime Minister has instructed officials to continue their investigation and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

"I don't know any of these people personally. I believe they were hired to harm me. It's not just me, but people in the area who want to know who is behind this," Kamolsak stated, emphasizing the community's interest in uncovering the mastermind behind this attack.

Kamolsak has provided initial confidential information to the Prime Minister to aid in identifying the person orchestrating the attack. He is striving to gather facts on the ground, including the involvement of a third party who reportedly communicated with the suspect by phone after the incident. This information, according to a confessor, was relayed to the third party, but identifying them requires scientific evidence. Kamolsak believes the police have the capability to track down Captain Viroj Ketumanee, the gunman still at large, which could lead to uncovering the mastermind.

He acknowledged the regional commander's statement regarding differing responses based on local lifestyles and sensitivities. Kamolsak admitted feeling a sense of relief after informing the Prime Minister but redirected questions about the outcome to the Prime Minister. He highlighted the urgency of apprehending Captain Viroj, who has reportedly fled abroad, stressing that indictments could proceed if the detention period for the four suspects expires.

"I am uneasy as long as the mastermind hasn't been caught, but I hope for justice and a chance for the police to do their job. I have appreciated the work of the police in the past," Kamolsak added, conveying his ongoing concern for justice.

Acknowledging his precarious situation, Kamolsak has sought witness protection from the Ministry of Justice, understanding that his life will remain in jeopardy until the perpetrators and masterminds are apprehended. His plea underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for swift action to ensure his safety.
