Bangkok: The transfer of rights for the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) to control all electric train lines has not yet been considered. Siripong revealed that discussions with all relevant agencies are necessary, as the debts of the Gold and Green lines would also need to be taken over. He affirmed that the project will definitely be completed and that discussions with the Ministry of Tourism are underway regarding plans for tourist trains.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Minister of Transport, addressed the Ministry of Transport's proposal to the Cabinet to acknowledge the transfer of management rights for all MRT lines to the MRTA. He stated that the matter has not yet been submitted to the Cabinet and will have to wait until next week. He emphasized the need to consult with all relevant agencies first, as the Gold and Green lines already have existing debt. Therefore, taking over the assets also means assuming the debt burden, requiring initial input from the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), the Council of State, the Budget Bureau, and all other relevant agencies. He affirmed that the project must be completed.
Mr. Siripong also revealed that he will be discussing the tourist train program with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports today. It will be offered as a package deal and possibly as a campaign to open new routes. Further discussions are needed, as currently the program covers the northeastern, northern, eastern, and western regions. We will have to wait and see if any additional routes will be added.
