Mae sot: Myanmar soldiers attacked the opposition, resulting in tension along the Mae Sot border as five bombs fell onto Thai soil. Five people were injured, and houses sustained damage, prompting a response from local authorities. Soldiers from the Rajamanu Task Force fired four smoke bombs in an attempt to halt the aggression, but the measure proved ineffective.
According to Thai News Agency, the Mae Sot District, located in Tak Province along the Thai-Myanmar border, has witnessed renewed hostilities throughout the day. Several battalions from Myanmar’s 22nd Light Infantry Division launched an assault against opposition forces stationed along the Pa Sak route in Nilapan Village, Myawaddy District, Karen State. This area, known for being a base for Chinese scammers, was the scene of a fierce exchange of gunfire and explosions heard across the border.
The conflict site is situated opposite Ban Mai Mae Kon Ken in Mahawan Subdistrict, Mae Sot District, Tak Province, less than a kilometer from the Thai border. At approximately 9:30 a.m., five grenades from a 60 mm launcher crossed into Thailand, striking Ban Mae Kon Ken in Mahawan Subdistrict.
The first impact occurred at a rented room occupied by a Myanmar worker, causing damage to the roof and walls and injuring four Myanmar workers, including a child. All injured parties were transported to Mae Sot Hospital. Another grenade landed in front of the Border Patrol Police base at Ban Mae Kon Ken, leaving a significant crater but causing no injuries among police personnel.
In response, Major General Maitri Chupreecha, Commander of the Naresuan Army, visited the scene with relevant agencies. He reported the situation to his superiors and ordered the firing of four smoke grenade warning shots toward Myanmar. Despite these efforts, the conflict in Myanmar persists with no indication of cessation. Thailand has issued a formal warning to Myanmar via the Thai-Myanmar coordination unit, urging caution in weapon use. Additionally, natural border crossings in Tak Province have been temporarily closed to prevent illicit activities.
Reinforcements from the Rajamanu Task Force, along with rangers from the 35th Military District Task Force, the 3rd Mae Sot District Volunteer Defense Corps Company, local government officials, the 346th Border Patrol Police, and the Mae Kon Ken Village Security Unit, have been deployed to maintain security. Local residents continue to fear for their safety as the threat of stray bullets remains. Fortunately, the four injured individuals are now in stable condition.
