Myanmar Man Fatally Stabs Wife After Divorce Request

Samut prakan: A Myanmar man has admitted to fatally stabbing his wife over 20 times after she requested a divorce to be with another man. The tragic incident occurred in their room at a workers' camp in the Bang Fai community, located in the Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan province. Following the violent act, the man waited to surrender to the police, who arrived shortly after.

According to Thai News Agency, officers from Samrong Tai Police Station, along with forensic experts and rescue workers from the Ruam Katanyu Foundation, responded to the scene. They discovered the lifeless body of 40-year-old Khin Thanda Aung, also a Myanmar national, who had suffered over 20 stab wounds. A blood-stained knife was found near her body, and the area was secured for evidence collection and an autopsy.

The suspect, identified as the victim's 40-year-old husband, did not attempt to flee. He awaited the arrival of the authorities and was subsequently taken to Samrong Tai Police Station for questioning. Forensic evidence, including fingerprints and DNA, was collected to support the investigation.

Through an interpreter, the husband confessed to the murder, explaining that the altercation began while he was cooking. His wife was on the phone with another man from Myanmar, discussing her intention to leave and live with him. Despite his pleas and reminders of their responsibilities towards their child, she remained resolute in her decision. In a fit of rage, he attempted to seize the phone, but she resisted. This led him to use the kitchen knife to stab her repeatedly.

Initially, the police have charged the suspect with intentional homicide, and he remains in custody as legal proceedings continue.
