NACC Elevates Government Exam Cheating Scandal to Special Case

Bangkok: The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has taken significant action by classifying the local government exam cheating incident as a special case, appointing a dedicated committee to thoroughly investigate the matter, which involves high-ranking officials, brokers, and test takers.

According to Thai News Agency, the NACC has decided to escalate the investigation into the alleged manipulation of exam scores and solicitation of money from candidates in the 2025 competitive examination for local government recruitment. The examination, overseen by the Department of Local Administration under the Ministry of Interior, is now under scrutiny for potential corruption involving various stakeholders, including the director-general. The NACC aims to gather substantial evidence to facilitate the prosecution of all parties involved.

The commission has noted that there is sufficient evidence to suggest misconduct by the Director-General of the Department of Local Administration and other officials. The allegations include altering exam scores and accepting bribes to ensure certain candidates passed the examination. This revelation has prompted the NACC to classify it as a special case, due to its national significance and potential impact on public trust.

The NACC has resolved to investigate the incident thoroughly, focusing on the 2025 competitive examination project. The investigation will cover a wide range of individuals, including senior executives, government officials involved in managing the examinations, and non-government individuals such as score-altering agents and brokers. The commission will also look into other individuals suspected of being involved in the corruption scheme.

In its efforts to ensure a comprehensive investigation, the NACC will collaborate with the Royal Thai Police and the Department of Special Investigation. Officers from these agencies will be requested to join the investigation committee, as per the guidelines set out in Section 51 of the 2018 Act on Prevention and Suppression of Corruption. The NACC is committed to uncovering the truth behind the allegations and holding accountable all those involved in the scandal.
