Bangkok: The Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has affirmed that witnesses involved in the local government exam cheating case will not face devaluation.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surapong Intarathon, the NACC Secretary-General, discussed the ongoing investigation into corruption within local government examinations. He emphasized that the NACC is actively conducting regular meetings and is in the final stages of gathering evidence. He noted that while specific details are not yet being released, a joint press conference will be held later today by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul alongside the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) to address asset seizures related to the case.

The investigation is prioritizing the identification of case aspects that can be immediately addressed, followed by determining further involvement and categorizing the accused into specific groups. This approach aims to clarify the offenses committed and is being conducted alongside tracing financial transactions to ensure the apprehension of the masterminds behind the crime.

Regarding witness protection, Mr. Surapong stated that the need for protection will be evaluated based on the number of requests made by witnesses post-questioning. He expressed confidence in the existing NACC law's comprehensive mechanisms for witness protection, highlighting that cooperation level is a key factor.

Mr. Surapong also addressed concerns from Burapha University, which had urgently requested protection for witnesses and informants due to fears of social devaluation or safety risks. He reassured that the justice system maintains a single standard, ensuring the protection and integrity of all involved without devaluation.
