Nakhon Phanom Showcases Cultural Heritage with ‘Sri Khot Bura’ Gifts for Cabinet

Nakhon Phanom: Nakhon Phanom Province is set to highlight its cultural heritage by presenting ‘Sri Khot Bura’ woven sedge bags featuring Naga scale patterns and local lychees to the cabinet during an upcoming mobile cabinet meeting. This initiative aims to reflect the unique identity and traditional wisdom of the region.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, stated that during the 2nd/2025 off-site Cabinet meeting in Nakhon Phanom Province, the province will offer ‘Sri Khotboon’ shirts and Naga scale woven sedge bags as souvenirs. These items are intended to convey the cultural identity and pride of the people of Nakhon Phanom Province.

The ‘Sri Kotraburan’ outfit has its origins in the Sri Kotraburan Kingdom, an ancient realm in the Mekong River basin. It embodies the art, culture, and traditional weaving crafts of the region. The attire is commonly worn by locals during religious ceremonies and traditional events. It is crafted from indigo-dyed plain silk fabric and is decorated with ‘Kho Kai Kaew’ silk, symbolizing prosperity. The production is managed by the Ban Tha Ruea Silk Weaving Group in Na Wa District, supported by the Promotion of Special Arts and Crafts Foundation and aligns with the royal initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya.

Additionally, the province has prepared woven sedge bags with Naga scales and lychee patterns as gifts. These bags, crafted from intricately woven sedge, are symbolic of Phraya Sri Satta Nakarat, the protector of Nakhon Phanom. The Ban Lao Phatthana Agricultural Housewives Group in Lao Phatthana Subdistrict is responsible for their production.

The renowned Nakhon Phanom lychee, a locally grown fruit, is also part of the offerings. It holds the distinction of being the top variety cultivated in Kham Thao Subdistrict and has been registered as a geographical indication (GI) since June 25, 2015.

The menu for the cabinet meeting will feature a variety of dishes from notable local restaurants, including sour soup with country chicken, beef and pork noodles, Vietnamese Pak Mo, catfish salad, Lao papaya salad, and grilled chicken with sticky rice. Desserts include pudding in a clay pot, Tha Uthen pineapple, NP.1 lychee, and sesame salad with khanom thian.
