Nan: Jaset provides an update on the flood situation in Nan Province, reporting that while water levels are receding, the challenges of thick mud persist. He confirmed the capsizing of a rescue boat, with all personnel on board safe.
According to Thai News Agency, the Deputy Minister of Interior revealed that the floodwaters in Nan are receding, and preparations for recovery are underway in several areas. Mud measuring up to one foot deep has been reported in certain locations. The Deputy Minister stated that 99% of vulnerable groups and the general public have been evacuated. Confidence was expressed in the cell broadcast system and the readiness of rescue teams and agencies to manage the influx of water from upstream areas towards Sukhothai, Phrae, and Uttaradit. The three officers aboard the capsized rescue boat were reported safe.
Mr. Jetseth Thaiseth, Deputy Minister of Interior, addressed the flood situation in Wiang Sa District, highlighting that floodwaters have primarily affected agricultural areas and rice paddies. Many homes were flooded last week, but most residents are prepared with water pumps, shelters, and supplies. The water levels in Mueang Nan District have significantly decreased, with predictions not exceeding expectations. Water has not breached the Nan city municipality but has flowed towards Phu Piang District.
Mr. Jetseth noted that 99% of vulnerable groups in Mueang and Phu Phiang districts have been evacuated to fully occupied centers. In Pua District, rapid floodwaters initially trapped residents, but waters have receded, leaving behind knee-deep mud. Some children developed fevers from rain exposure, and evacuation efforts included the elderly and disabled. Medical assistance is being coordinated, though impassable roads necessitate patient evacuation on foot, ahead of a full-scale recovery.
Regarding the water mass flowing into Sukhothai, Mr. Jetset emphasized that warnings have been issued via the cell broadcast system. Preparations include water pumps and emergency response teams from Nan province ready to support Sukhothai with equipment like jet skis and flat-bottomed boats.
Mr. Jetset stated that areas with urgent needs, particularly Pua and Tha Wang Pha districts, are most affected, with thousands of households impacted by landslides and debris. He has coordinated with the Minister of Defense for military assistance. Ongoing transportation challenges are the main obstacle in the area.
The Deputy Minister confirmed the rescue boat accident in Pua District, caused by strong currents, with all three rescue workers safe. Rescue operations, including evacuation and food distribution, are ongoing in Pua District with plans to extend efforts to Tha Wang Pha District. Recovery efforts are progressing as water levels gradually recede.
