Narathiwat: The Narathiwat Task Force has declared a province-wide curfew from 10:15 PM to 6:00 AM, effective immediately, in response to a series of bomb explosions and violent incidents.

According to Thai News Agency, the curfew is part of upgraded martial law measures aimed at restoring peace and order in the region.

The announcement was officially issued under the "Prohibition of Persons Leaving Their Residences During the Specified Period and Exercising Powers Under the Martial Law Act of 1914," signed by Major General Yod-awut Phungphak, Commander of the Narathiwat Task Force. The decision aligns with the Council for Democratic Reform under the Monarchy's September 19, 2006, declaration of martial law, subsequently applied specifically to Narathiwat Province through a Royal Decree on December 31, 2007.

The recent wave of violence on August 22, 2016, including bombings and unrest, necessitated a robust response involving military, police, and civilian forces to ensure the safety and stability of the province. The powers conferred by the Martial Law Act of 1914 enable the task force to enforce these measures.

The curfew mandates that no individual may leave their residence from 10:15 PM on August 22, 2016, to 6:00 AM on August 23, 2016, without explicit permission from authorized personnel. The military will conduct tactical operations under the authority granted by Sections 6, 8, 9, and 11 of the Martial Law Act to search and maintain order.

Civilians and local officials are required to assist military personnel in maintaining peace and conducting necessary operations. The public is urged to cooperate to facilitate the effective implementation of these measures, which are intended to safeguard lives and property in Narathiwat Province.

This directive is in effect immediately to address the urgent security situation.
