Bangkok: The road where a bomb blast and shooting resulted in the deaths of five paramilitary soldiers in Narathiwat has been reopened. Traffic has resumed, and the local market atmosphere has returned to normal as residents express confidence in the security measures in place.

According to Thai News Agency, the Tanyong Mas economic zone is beginning to revive after authorities announced the reopening of routes following the ambush of military rangers. The 4509th Ranger Regiment maintains strict checkpoints and adheres to high security measures. Local residents state they are not frightened by the declaration of martial law, as they are accustomed to it and understand the authorities' work. Consequently, the atmosphere at the Tanyong Mas municipal market has returned to normal.

The unrest in the southern border provinces on July 22, 2026, resulted from insurgents ambushing paramilitary rangers from the 4509th Paramilitary Regiment Task Force in Moo 7, Tan Yong Mas Subdistrict, Ra-ngae District, Narathiwat Province. This attack led to the deaths of five paramilitary rangers and injuries to six civilians.

Latest reports indicate that security officials have cleared the area and reopened the road to normal traffic. The road had been closed since July 22 to allow Explosive Ordnance Disposal and forensic teams to conduct a thorough investigation and collect evidence, ensuring public safety and preventing further incidents.

Although routes have reopened, security remains tight. Military rangers from the 45th Ranger Regiment Task Force continue to man checkpoints on main and secondary roads, thoroughly searching vehicles and checking suspicious individuals to reassure the public and prevent extremist groups from resuming activities or carrying out further attacks.

The atmosphere at the Tan Yong Mas Subdistrict Municipal Market today showed that local residents had begun to shop for consumer goods as usual. The market is gradually becoming lively again following the additional declaration of martial law to control the situation.

Local residents generally expressed that they were not worried or panicked by the declaration of martial law. They stated that such laws have long been used to maintain peace and order in Narathiwat province, and the public is familiar with and understands the necessity of the security forces' measures. They continue their daily lives as normal under the close security supervision of officials.
