Naresuan Task Force Enforces Temporary Closure of Moei River Border

Mae Sot:Tak The Naresuan Task Force has announced a seven-day closure of the Moei River border, restricting the import and export of goods as a precautionary measure against potential conflict in Myanmar.

According to Thai News Agency, the closure order, issued by Major General Prasan Henprasert, Commander of the Naresuan Task Force, aims to secure the area and prevent any adverse effects from ongoing hostilities in Myanmar. The decision follows incidents of shelling that have impacted the Thai side, particularly in Huai Maha Wong village, Mae Sot District.

The task force's directive, labeled KH 0483/Naresuan 577, was addressed to the Mae Sot Customs checkpoint. It mandates the suspension of import and export activities through any unapproved channels. This measure is intended to maintain border security and prevent any cross-border support that could escalate the fighting between Myanmar's military and ethnic minority or anti-government groups in the Nila Ban area, Myawaddy Township, Kayin State.

The suspension will be in effect from October 30 to November 5, 2026, covering areas south of the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 1 across the Moei River in Mae Sot District and Phop Phra District, Tak Province. The task force stresses the importance of this action for the safety and security of local residents and property.
