Bangkok, 22 Oct – Spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture revealed that ‘Narumon’ ordered an urgent survey of agricultural areas damaged by floods, along with establishing preventive measures after the water recedes, and instructed close monitoring of the storm situation.

Mr. Ekkapap Polsue, spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (political side), said that Mrs. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, ordered an urgent survey of farmer areas damaged by floods in detail and transparently in order to provide assistance to farmers so that they can return to farming as usual. Most recently, she ordered the Department of Agriculture to set guidelines for preventing the spread of diseases, plant pests, and fungi after the water recedes, along with urging local agencies to mobilize forces to urgently contain the spread of diseases and plant pests in flood-affected areas damaged by the floodwaters in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phrae, Nan, Phayao, and Sukhothai.

r. Ekkapab confirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture, along with all relevant agencies, is closely monitoring the storm situation and integrating water management services to ensure sufficient water for agriculture.

While the overall water situation of the country on 22 October 2024 at 7:00 a.m., it was found that there was still a flood situation in 3 provinces: Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya (Sena, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Bang Ban, Bang Pa-in, Bang Pa-han, Phak Hai, and Bang Sai), Suphan Buri (Bang Pla Ma, U Thong, and Song Phi Nong), and Nakhon Pathom (Nakhon Chai Si, Bang Len, and Sam Phran). The highest 24-hour accumulated rainfall was in the North at Uthai Thani (87 mm), the East at Trat (86 mm), the Central region at Bangkok (80 mm), the South at Nakhon Si Thammarat (48 mm), the Northeast at Khon Kaen (36 mm), and the West at Prachuap Khiri Khan (28 mm).

It is predicted that during 23-27 October 2024, the high-pressure area from China will continue to cover the upper North and upper Northeast regions, w
hile the monsoon trough will move down to cover the central South, causing the upper part of Thailand to have less rain, but there will still be thunderstorms in some areas, with some heavy rain in the South.

For the depression in the eastern part of the Philippines, it has intensified into a tropical storm “Trami” (TRAMI). It is expected to move into the upper South China Sea during 23-24 October 2024.

Overall water situation in reservoirs: Total water volume 80% of storage capacity (64,717 million cubic meters), usable water volume 70% (40,520 million cubic meters)

The Royal Irrigation Department reported the water situation in the Chao Phraya Basin at 7:00 a.m. at Station C2, Mueang Nakhon Sawan District, with a flow rate of 1,646 cubic meters per second, an upward trend. The water level rose 19 cm from yesterday, but is still 3.82 meters below the bank. Station C13, Chao Phraya Dam, Chai Nat Province, with a flow rate of 1,300 cubic meters per second, an upward trend. The water level downstream of the
dam is 4.24 meters below the bank. Due to increased rainfall in areas above the Chao Phraya Dam, the discharge rate must be increased from 1,300 cubic meters per second to 1,350 cubic meters per second by 11:00 a.m. today (October 22, 2024).
