National Artist Thanis Sriklindee Reveals Inspiration Behind Song Celebrating Her Majesty Queen Sirikit

Bangkok: Professor Thanis Sriklindee, National Artist in Performing Arts for 2016, has expressed profound gratitude to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, through the composition of the song “Thua Kharawalai Akharaphiraksinlapin.” The song, crafted with heartfelt dedication, was supported by the Department of Cultural Promotion under the Ministry of Culture and serves as a tribute to Her Majesty’s extensive royal duties for the Thai populace.

According to Thai News Agency, Professor Thanis, in a recount to Nine Entertain, shared a memorable moment from August 12, 1981, at Dusit Palace. On that day, he had the privilege of performing the saxophone in front of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. A notable highlight was when King Rama IX graced the stage to play the piano for Her Majesty, who was eagerly listening. Professor Thanis described his immense joy during this performance, a memory that remains vivid. The Queen Mother’s joyful smile and King Rama IX’s exemplary piano skills left a lasting impression, with both monarchs symbolizing ideal marital life and the preservation of Thai arts and culture.

Beyond music, Professor Thanis holds deep appreciation for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s contributions to reviving “Thai Khon.” Her Majesty’s dedication brought Thai Khon back into the spotlight, emphasizing attention to details such as costumes, masks, makeup, Thai musical instruments, and various performance compositions. This revival not only enhanced the cultural prominence of Khon but also provided career opportunities for those skilled in the arts.
