National ID Card Service Launched to Encourage Voter Participation

Bangkok: National ID card services have been launched to encourage citizens to exercise their right to vote in upcoming elections and referendums. The Election Commission, in collaboration with the Central Registration Office, is spearheading this initiative to facilitate the issuance of national identity cards, thereby ensuring that eligible voters can participate in these democratic processes.

According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission of Thailand is working with the Central Registration Bureau of the Department of Provincial Administration to streamline the voting process for those eligible to vote in the upcoming referendum and election. This initiative is particularly focused on the advance voting period set for Sunday, February 1, 2026, and the main election and referendum day on Sunday, February 8, 2026. To accommodate voters, district and local registration offices will provide national identity card issuance services from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on February 1, 2026, and again between February 7-8, 2026.

Furthermore, officials have been tasked with receiving reports from eligible voters who are unable to participate in the parliamentary elections, even on public holidays. These reports can be submitted between February 1st and 7th, 2026, and again between February 9th and 15th, 2026. Similarly, voters unable to exercise their right in the referendum can notify officials between January 14 and February 7, 2026, and from February 9th to 15th, 2026. Voters can report their inability to participate due to valid reasons at any district or local registration office, with the option to submit these reports electronically.
