Songkhla: The national police chief has mandated an urgent investigation following an attack on a police sergeant in Songkhla. The officer was assaulted by a group of men while performing his duties at a polling station.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the national police chief, has instructed the Songkhla Provincial Police Commander to take strict legal action against those responsible for the attack, which left a police sergeant major injured. The assault occurred as the officer attempted to prevent the men from taking unauthorized pictures at the polling station. In response, a special operations team has been deployed to address influential groups acting beyond the law, ensuring all offenses are prosecuted rigorously.
Pol. Gen. Kittirat described the incident as unacceptable and emphasized the need for severe punishment for the perpetrators. He directed commanders to support the injured officers and tasked the Songkhla Provincial Police Commander with overseeing the operation personally.
The investigation is being expedited, with efforts focused on gathering evidence and initiating legal proceedings promptly. A special task force has been established to confront influential groups acting unlawfully, with a mandate to arrest and prosecute them comprehensively. The investigation will also explore any potential connections between the attackers and other criminal activities, ensuring all violations are addressed thoroughly.
The national police chief condemned actions that defy the law, asserting that the perpetrators must be apprehended and prosecuted swiftly. He stressed that no individual or group should consider themselves above the law and that all citizens must adhere to the nation’s rules, regulations, and legal framework.
