Nattapong Accuses Prime Minister of Delaying No-Confidence Debate Until December

Bangkok:Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People's Party and the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, has criticized the Prime Minister for delaying the no-confidence debate, suggesting it is being stalled until December. He emphasized that the opposition is ready to proceed with the debate immediately.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nattapong expressed dissatisfaction with the government's proposed schedule, which postpones the debate to early December. He argued that the opposition is prepared and willing to engage in the debate under a five-day, 60-hour timeframe. The delay has been attributed to conflicting schedules, with the government claiming November is unavailable.

Mr. Nattapong also highlighted that the Prime Minister's lack of parliamentary experience contributes to the delay. He proposed using a 4+1 principle, including weekends, to find a suitable date in November. He noted that reducing the debate to four days would be acceptable, provided the Prime Minister participates.

In response to suggestions that the Prime Minister delegate his duties at the ASEAN and APEC summits to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nattapong acknowledged the minister's capability but did not comment on the advisability of the proposal. He stressed the importance of addressing critical issues, such as toxic substances in rivers, during international negotiations.

Mr. Nattapong confirmed that the opposition is prepared with two sets of speakers for either a four-day or five-day debate format, demonstrating their readiness to scrutinize the government without further delay.
