Natthaphong Accepts Siriphan’s Criticism of People’s Party-Bhumjaithai Party Agreement

Bangkok: Natthaphong accepts Siripan’s comments on the issue of criticizing the People’s Party (PA) and Bhumjaithai Party (B.T.P.) as unnatural, stating that the censure vote is unrelated. He insists on clear lines and that a new constitution will be drafted within four months.

According to Thai News Agency, Natthaphong Ruangpanyawut, a party-list MP and leader of the Prachachon Party, responded to Siriphan Noksuansawasdi, a lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science at Chulalongkorn University. Siriphan had commented that the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the Prachachon Party and the Bhumjaithai Party appeared unnatural, suggesting that a vote of confidence during the debate would breach the contract. Natthaphong acknowledged Siriphan’s views, noting his support for her during her application to become a Constitutional Court judge. He clarified that a no-confidence vote would not breach the MOA, as its stipulations only include a four-month timeframe and the process of drafting a new constitution. He emphasized that the Prachachon Party’s role as an opposition party is separate from the MOA or the Bhumjaithai Party.

When questioned about a proposal from the Pheu Thai Party for the Prachachon and Bhumjaithai parties to collaborate on drafting a unified constitution and broadcasting it live, Natthaphong expressed his support. He suggested that a livestream of the Constitution Amendment Committee, Chapter 15/1, should be conducted within the next three months. He stressed that negotiations involving all relevant parties, particularly the Pheu Thai, Bhumjaithai, and Prachachon parties, would be essential for drafting a constitution with significant public relevance. Natthaphong proposed conducting these discussions in a formal setting, such as a special committee.
