Natthapong Asserts Readiness to Tackle Legal Battle Against 44 MPs

Bangkok: "Natthapong" affirms readiness to fight the case against the 44 MPs, with the first hearing scheduled for June 30th. He expresses confidence in his legal team.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, a party-list MP and leader of the People's Party, gave an interview regarding the Supreme Court's first hearing on June 30th concerning 44 former MPs from the Move Forward Party, now the People's Party. The case stems from a complaint filed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) alleging serious ethical violations for their participation in a bill to amend Article 112 of the Criminal Code. When asked about the preparations, he stated that they are fully prepared and have confidence in the party's legal team. He affirmed that their submission of the bill to amend the law should not be the reason for this lawsuit.

When asked if there were any specific points being contested in the legal arguments, Mr. Nattapong said that the arguments were essentially the same as what they had previously communicated. He hoped there would be no changes and that the various agencies would be fair to them.

Regarding whether using the same old tactics will lead to victory, Mr. Nattapong said that he and his party members, if they fight alone and only within the system, many might think they won't win. However, he reminded everyone that, even as an opposition party, they have achieved many things through the pressure and support of the people outside of parliament, such as labor laws, marriage equality, and progressive alcohol laws. Similarly, they are fighting hard within the system, but they must also raise their voices and pressure the people outside of parliament to ensure a fair and transparent justice system and a political system where ultimate power truly rests with the people.
