Near Clash as Cambodian Soldiers Approach Thomoda Fence with Weapons

Trat: Tensions escalated in the Thomoda area of Trat province when Cambodian soldiers, fully armed, approached the container fence, creating a near-clash situation. Lieutenant Colonel Tony ordered the Cambodian soldiers to retreat, emphasizing that they were encroaching on Thai territory.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident gained attention after a video was posted on the Facebook page "Kan Chompalang," showing armed Cambodian soldiers, journalists, and hundreds of villagers gathering near the container fence. The page reported that the Thai side urged the Cambodian soldiers to back down, seeking a peaceful resolution to the standoff.

The situation intensified when a Cambodian brigadier expressed dissatisfaction with the construction of an additional fence by the Thai side. Despite this, the Thai side maintained its stance, asserting its right to proceed with the construction on its territory. The incident reached a viral moment when a "Brigadier General" in a green scarf advanced, only to be warned by "Captain Tony" to step back. Captain Tony's assertive response, "Remember my face," was lauded on social media for its bravery.

Captain Tony Pagewasana Nanom, the officer involved, is recognized for his tough, action-oriented approach. The aggressive stance from Brigadier General Kem Kosol, who was not initially responsible for the Thmodda area, stemmed from his mission to suppress scammers. However, reports suggested that his actual intent was to secure scammers and their equipment, as key personnel had been relocated before the Cambodian units' sweep. Coordination in the area was primarily handled by General Sokheng and General Chan Butdy with the Thai side, prompting Captain Tony to insist that Brigadier General Kem Kosol withdraw from the engagement.
