NESDC Awaits ESSC Decision on Diesel Price Freeze

Bangkok: The Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) has indicated that a decision on whether to continue freezing diesel prices or allow them to fluctuate with market dynamics is expected this afternoon. This determination will follow the results from the Economic and Social Council's (ESSC) meeting.

According to Thai News Agency, the Secretary-General, Mr. Danucha Pichayanant, emphasized the importance of the upcoming ESSC meeting in deciding the future of diesel price controls. He suggested patience until the council convenes and delivers its findings on the matter.

The discussion on diesel prices comes amid reports that Deputy Prime Minister Bowornsak Uwanno refrained from answering questions about the potential issuance of an emergency decree to borrow funds to support the oil fund. This has left many speculating about the government's next steps regarding energy policy.

Anan Chaokamnerd, Director of the Budget Bureau, provided insights into a recent meeting with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. He noted that although the Prime Minister urged conservation of energy, there was no explicit mention of an emergency decree to borrow funds. The focus of the discussion was on collective efforts to manage energy consumption rather than financial maneuvers to bolster the oil fund.
