Bangkok: The Network of the National Security Council (NSC) organized a protest at Government House to demand justice for Dr. Suphat Hasuwathuranakit, arguing that his dismissal from government service lacked due process and did not provide him an opportunity to defend himself.

According to Thai News Agency, the People's Health Promotion Movement (PHPM), along with a network of COVID-19 victims and the Friends of Dr. Suphat group, submitted a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Bowornsak Uwantho. The letter, delivered through Mr. Sompas Nilphan, advisor to the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, requested justice for Dr. Suphat, the former director of Sabayoi Hospital and a candidate for Member of Parliament in Songkhla Constituency 2 for the People's Party.

The leaders of the NSC expressed their desire to present their stance to the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Civil Service Ethics Committee. They believe that Dr. Suphat's actions during the COVID-19 pandemic were carried out with the intention to protect the public, despite the constraints of the bureaucratic system.

The network emphasized the critical role rural doctors played during the pandemic, aiding communities in understanding the situation and adapting to government measures practically. They argued that these doctors acted as stabilizing forces, preventing panic and confusion.

The network is urging the Civil Service Commission to reconsider the investigation as Dr. Suphat was not allowed to verbally explain himself to the disciplinary committee, a right they argue is protected by law. They are calling for an honest and fair review to build confidence in the civil service system and reduce allegations of bias or political motives.

Lastly, the network appealed to the Ministry of Public Health's executives and staff to uphold the rule of law and integrity, rejecting undue authority. They warned against allowing public perception of unfairness in government organizations to lead to societal disillusionment.
