Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha on 5 May 2021 issued an order establishing a special center for integrated operations to handle the COVID-19 situation in Bangkok and its vicinity.
The order stated that the special center aims to manage the emergency situation with greater efficiency and appropriately in line with the changing situation.
The center, with the Prime Minister as Director, is responsible for setting guidance for integrated mobilization to accelerate and follow up on operations against the transmission of COVID-19 in Bangkok and its vicinity, so that the COVID-19 situation will ease as soon as possible, in accordance with the policy, guidelines, criteria, and measures set by the Government, or the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
It will cooperate with the public and private sectors and the people involved with containing the spread of COVID-19 in Bangkok and nearby provinces.
The center will also offer suggestions and opinions on the tackling of the COVID-19 situation in Bangkok and its vicinity. The Prime Minister hoped that the operations of this center would serve as guidance for handling the COVID-19 situation in other provinces, as well.
On the same day, the Prime Minister also issued two orders: one on the appointment of a special committee for integrated medical and public health services, headed by the Secretary General of the National Security Council; and the other on the appointment of the public health advisory board in the CCSA, headed by Clinical Professor Emeritus Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn.
