Buriram: Newin Chidchob, a prominent figure and CEO of Buriram United Football Club, marked his 67th birthday with a grand celebration at the Chang Arena in Mueang Buriram District. The event, attended by members of the Bhumjaithai Party and other government officials, was filled with traditional ceremonies and lively festivities.
According to Thai News Agency, the celebration began with Mr. Newin making a dramatic entrance on a yellow Vespa motorcycle before paying homage to Lord Shiva. He was joined by his family, including his wife and children, as well as notable figures such as Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, and Mr. Saksayam Chidchob, former Minister of Transport.
The event saw a significant political presence, highlighted by the arrival of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul. Anutin, who traveled from Bangkok, was met with a warm embrace from Mr. Newin. The two participated in the traditional elephant-shaking ceremony, a significant ritual for the Chidchob family, involving the feeding of elephants and blessings from an elephant shaman.
A wrist-tying ceremony also took place, where Mr. Newin tied a wristband on Mr. Anutin, wishing him success in the upcoming elections and a four-year term as Prime Minister. This gesture was met with laughter and camaraderie, as the ceremony was performed by three teachers who tied Mr. Anutin’s wrist.
The celebration was attended by a diverse group of politicians and leaders, including members of the Bhumjaithai Party, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, and various ministers from the coalition government. High-profile attendees from different political parties and government departments added to the event’s prestige.
In a private ceremony, Mr. Newin and his group performed a merit-making ceremony, offering food to monks and paying homage to sacred objects, away from the media’s view. Attendees were noted to be wearing navy blue shirts, some bearing the “Buriram” logo, symbolizing unity and support for Mr. Newin.
In lieu of gifts, Mr. Newin requested that attendees make donations to Buriram Hospital, promoting a sense of community and charity. The event not only celebrated Mr. Newin’s birthday but also reinforced his influence and connections within the political and social spheres of Thailand.
