Nida Poll Reveals Public’s Lack of Understanding on MOUs 43 and 44

Bangkok: A recent survey conducted by Nida Poll has revealed a significant gap in public understanding of MOUs 43 and 44, alongside a notable support for a referendum to cancel these agreements.

According to Thai News Agency, the survey aimed to assess the public’s comprehension of MOU 43 and MOU 44, as well as their views on a potential referendum to annul these agreements. The findings indicate that 44.12 percent of respondents admitted to not understanding MOU 43 at all, while 24.96 percent said they did not quite understand it. Meanwhile, 23.13 percent claimed to somewhat understand it, and only 7.79 percent stated they understood it well.

Similarly, when it came to MOU 44, 45.73 percent of participants reported having no understanding at all, with 24.96 percent acknowledging limited understanding. A further 22.44 percent somewhat understood it, and 6.87 percent expressed a strong understanding.

Beyond understanding, the survey explored the public’s desire for further clarity on these agreements. It was found that 65.50 percent of respondents wished to better understand both MOUs, whereas 34.04 percent expressed no interest in gaining further understanding. A mere 0.23 percent were interested in understanding only one of the MOUs.

The survey also gauged public sentiment regarding a referendum on canceling the agreements. Results showed that 60.76 percent of respondents supported holding a referendum to annul both MOUs. Conversely, 20.92 percent opposed the idea, 12.60 percent were indifferent or uninterested, 4.96 percent were unsure, while 0.46 percent and 0.30 percent supported a referendum to cancel only MOU 43 or MOU 44, respectively.
