Bangkok: Ms. Earn Oranapat Boonananphat, the founder of "Niran Wreath for a Sustainable World," shared the story of how the initiative came into existence. The idea was born out of the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic when the surge in fatalities led to a shortage of burial shrouds for several rescue units. Ms. Boonananphat's family's textile factory contributed by supplying surplus fabric to these teams for use as burial shrouds.
According to Thai News Agency, this experience highlighted a significant environmental issue: the disposal of numerous wreaths after religious ceremonies. These wreaths, intended to honor and remember the deceased, often ended up in piles awaiting disposal or burning, contributing to non-recyclable waste. The initiative aims to address this problem, transforming what was once an environmental burden into a sustainable practice.
