No Additional Building Collapses Reported, USAR Thailand on Standby

Bangkok: The Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has confirmed that no further commercial buildings have collapsed, with the USAR THAILAND team ready to handle any emergencies.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Teerapat Khachamat, the Director-General of DDPM, provided updates regarding a commercial building collapse incident near Wongwian Yai, caused by water intrusion into the underground construction tunnel for the Purple Line MRT. He noted that although the building seemed to be subsiding visually, instrumentation showed it remained at a consistent tilt of 79-80 degrees. Continuous monitoring for any cracks or fractures is ongoing, with USAR THAILAND employing specialized equipment and engineering techniques to assess the structure's stability. The DDPM is collaborating with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) by deploying a digital tilt meter that will trigger an alarm if further tilting occurs, ensuring prompt action by the team using appropriate equipment.

The affected building is reportedly undergoing renovations and is currently unoccupied. Businesses in nearby buildings have been advised to proceed with caution and await any official evacuation instructions from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
