Nonthaburi: Nonthaburi police have conducted an inspection of the grandparents' residence of the 14-year-old student responsible for a recent school shooting in Bang Kruai District. Relatives have disclosed that the child was addicted to video games, and his parents had been separated for two years.
According to Thai News Agency, law enforcement officials from Bang Bua Thong Police Station, alongside investigative officers and associated agencies, examined the home located in Soi Wat Lad Pladuk, Leab Khlong Tem Rak South Road, Bang Khurad Subdistrict. It was uncovered that prior to the school shooting, the young perpetrator had used a firearm to fatally shoot his grandparents inside their own home.
Authorities have secured the area to gather evidence and are awaiting a forensic team to perform a preliminary autopsy to determine the cause of death and to analyze the bullet trajectory and other evidence within the house. The deceased, Mr. Somjit Yimruang, 73, was found in the kitchen, while Mrs. Pornthip Yimruang, 68, was discovered in her room upstairs. The grandson had locked the house and left a box of ammunition on the bed after committing the crime.
The firearm used in the incident was owned by the grandfather, who had legally acquired it as a keepsake from his time as a bank manager. The grandmother, a former teacher, was part of a close-knit family that had reportedly never shown signs of internal conflict. Despite the family being closely connected, the youth had a noted addiction to video games and preferred isolation over socializing.
Ms. Thanaporn Yimruang, the sister of the grandfather, shared that she was called by the child's father, who informed her of the shooting spree. Upon her arrival, she found the home securely locked and was unable to enter. She described her nephew as a well-behaved child who lived quietly with his grandparents.
High-ranking police officials, including Police General Samran Nuanma and Police General Thana Chuwong, arrived at the scene to conduct further investigations. Police and volunteer rescue teams carried out thorough searches to ensure no individuals were trapped inside the school building.
In the aftermath of the tragic events, the parents of the young perpetrator have been summoned by police for questioning as investigations continue.
