Seoul: North Korea is reportedly undertaking the covert construction of a road near the border it shares with South Korea, a move believed to enhance its military capabilities in the region. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) disclosed that this tactical roadway is being developed on the northern bank of the border, potentially for future military operations.

According to Thai News Agency, the revelation came during a press conference held by the JCS, highlighting that military experts suspect the road is designed to facilitate the movement of weapons and supplies. The construction efforts were further documented by a team from NHK, who filmed the activity from South Korea's Paju city, approximately 1 kilometer from the border. The footage captured North Korean soldiers installing barbed wire fences and wielding shovels, although it remains uncertain if an actual road is being laid.

Reports from South Korean media suggest that the road construction is a provocative act by North Korea, emphasizing the ongoing tensions between the two nations. This development follows a 2024 incident where North Korea destroyed sections of its own infrastructure connecting the two countries, exacerbating hostilities. The North Korean regime persists in viewing South Korea as an adversary and dismisses attempts at negotiation with South Korean President Lee Jae-myong's administration.
