Northern Thailand Initiates Aerial Drilling to Combat Toxic Dust Accumulation

Phitsanulok: The Royal Rainmaking Operation Center of the North has commenced a unique operation of drilling into the atmosphere to expedite the release of dust particles from regions plagued by smog and small dust particles. This initiative particularly targets the provinces of Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, and Uttaradit, aiming to mitigate the accumulation of PM 2.5, which has begun impacting public health.

According to Thai News Agency, the Center for Prevention and Resolution of Forest Fires, Haze and Dust Problems, Region 3, in collaboration with the Northern Royal Rainmaking Operations Center and the Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation Department, has launched this atmospheric drilling procedure. This action seeks to combat the rising levels of toxic dust that are affecting health in the region.

Today’s operation involved three Casa aircraft, which were deployed to spray water through the atmosphere. This technique aims to release dust from areas burdened with smog and fine particles, specifically in the aforementioned provinces, with the goal of reducing PM 2.5 accumulation.

Further plans have been set to alter weather conditions in Chiang Mai, Tak, Phrae, and Phitsanulok provinces. These plans include employing cloud formation techniques, strategically avoiding clouds to absorb and disperse dust particles, and using methods to reduce inverse atmospheric temperature. These efforts are targeted at dissipating dust before it enters populated areas, thereby diminishing the PM 2.5 accumulation.
