NSC Meeting Calls for Enhanced Security Measures Amid Middle East Conflict

Bangkok: The National Security Council meeting has emphasized the importance of police intensifying intelligence gathering and security measures to ensure safety within the country.

According to Thai News Agency, the Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC), Mr. Chatchai Bangchawad, announced the outcomes of the meeting, highlighting the need for increased vigilance around foreign embassies, particularly those of the US, Israel, and Iran in Thailand. The NSC has also mandated intelligence agencies and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) to monitor cyberspace for misinformation that could instigate conflict.

Mr. Chatchai revealed that the council discussed domestic security measures in response to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The police and intelligence agencies have been tasked with closely monitoring locations and individuals related to the conflict. Initial preparations by the police are underway, with additional measures being implemented to track individuals potentially involved in supporting unrest as they enter and exit Thailand.

The meeting also addressed concerns about the dissemination of distorted or divisive information that could lead to conflict. Measures will be taken to ensure such information is verified for accuracy. In terms of economic impacts, the Ministry of Energy will assess the situation, while the Ministry of Commerce will focus on managing exports. Further discussions on these topics are scheduled for later in the day.

Mr. Chatchai assured reporters that life remains normal in tourist and high-risk areas, including those frequented by Americans and Iranians. Security forces are committed to safeguarding all foreigners in Thailand, regardless of nationality.

On the subject of preventing cyber threats that could stem from the Middle East conflict, Mr. Chatchai stated that intelligence agencies, the police, and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society have been tasked with investigating technical aspects to prevent the spread of misinformation on social media, which can lead to conflicts between groups with differing viewpoints.

Regarding the security of foreign embassies in Thailand, Mr. Chatchai confirmed that the police have already intensified security measures at the US, Iranian, and Israeli embassies, among others.
