OBEC Announces 2026 Outstanding Book Award Winners

Bangkok: The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has announced the results of the Outstanding Book Award competition for the year 2026. Mr. Pichet Phophakdee, Secretary-General of the Basic Education Commission, delegated Mr. Wisanu Thrapsombat, Deputy Secretary-General, to conduct a press conference to reveal the winners. The event took place in front of Meeting Room 1, Building 4, 2nd Floor, Ministry of Education.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wisanu emphasized OBEC's commitment to promoting reading as a fundamental skill that enhances critical thinking, imagination, and creativity. The Outstanding Book Awards aim to encourage the production and dissemination of high-quality books by collaborating with the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand. The initiative seeks to inspire authors, illustrators, and publishers to contribute positively to society by offering enriching reading materials.

The awards recognize books published in 2025, with 403 entries submitted across various categories, including non-fiction, novels, poetry, and more. These categories cover a wide range of genres and target different age groups, from young children to young adults.

Winners of the 2026 Outstanding Book Awards will receive their accolades at the 54th National Book Week's opening ceremony, presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The event will take place on March 27, 2026, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The National Book Week and the 24th International Book Week will run from March 26 to April 6, 2026, featuring an exhibition of the award-winning books and various public activities.
