OBEC Clarifies Misleading Claims on Consultant Hiring

Bangkok: The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) clarified recent misinformation regarding the hiring of special consultants. Contrary to claims circulating on social media, OBEC confirmed that only nine special consultants have been hired, not 53 as alleged.

According to Thai News Agency, the confusion arose from a Facebook page's assertion that the Secretary-General of the Basic Education Commission appointed 53 consultants, each with a monthly salary exceeding 30,000 baht. OBEC clarified that this information was inaccurate, leading to public misunderstanding. The commission currently employs nine contracted consultants to address various operational needs within OBEC. Out of these, six positions are continuations from the 2025 fiscal year, while the remaining three are new additions under the current Secretary-General. These new appointments include one consultant in the Secretary-General's working group and two within OBEC's offices.

OBEC emphasized that the hiring process for these contract employees was conducted in a transparent manner, adhering to regulatory standards. The focus remains on ensuring the benefit of the government and the efficient use of the budget. OBEC reiterated that only nine contract employees serve as Special Advisors, contradicting the social media reports of 53 advisors.
