Bangkok: Officials are preparing to adjust the venue to accommodate the public as people expressed their condolences for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, expressing their deepest gratitude.
According to Thai News Agency, people from various provinces have been traveling to pay their respects before the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, at the Sahathai Samakhom Pavilion in the Grand Palace. Visitors enter through the entrance at Sanam Luang, where volunteers provide assistance and guidance throughout the waiting tents. Additional preparations at the venue include signage indicating resting and dining areas, portable restrooms for the elderly, and information screens offering clearer guidance to the public.
Officials have also prepared to adjust the area and tighten security checks to accommodate the large number of people expected to arrive tomorrow. Screening points have been relocated within the tunnel in front of the Royal Plaza, and hazardous substance detectors have been installed to facilitate public passage. Baggage checkpoints have been added, and a valid ID card, driver’s license, or passport must be presented upon entry. Officials will inspect belongings and register visitors, who will then receive a sticker to attach to their shirt before entering the inner area to pay their respects to the royal remains.
For those arriving by public transport, there has been a change in the entrance to Sanam Luang. The previous single pick-up and drop-off point in the center of Sanam Luang has been adjusted to drop off directly at the entrance opposite the Red Building, allowing visitors to enter the waiting tents directly. Meanwhile, the main entrance in the center of Sanam Luang remains open for those receiving royal food before entering the area.
Ms. Thikamporn and Ms. Thipakorn Luengyingyong, two sisters from Samut Prakan, expressed their intention to rent traditional Thai clothing in subdued colors to pay homage. Their admiration for His Majesty’s royal duties, particularly his efforts to foster friendly international relations, has inspired them to visit the Royal Thai Textile Museum. Their study revealed the beauty of His Majesty’s attire, reflected in collections that incorporated various styles of Thai fabrics, co-designed by renowned French designer Pierre Balmain. His Majesty is recognized as one of the best-dressed individuals of all time.
