Bangkok: The Ombudsman Office celebrated its 25th anniversary with an academic seminar aimed at enhancing proactive work efficiency and focusing on serving the public. Mr. Somsak Suwansujarit, President of the Ombudsman, together with Mr. Songsak Saicheua, Ombudsman, and Pol. Lt. Col. Keerap Kritthiranon, Secretary-General of the Ombudsman Office, led the event. The seminar featured special lectures, discussion forums, legal consultation services, and avenues for public complaints.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Somsak Suwansujarit emphasized the Ombudsman’s role as a key organization in addressing public grievances and injustices caused by government actions. The Ombudsman’s transparent and inspectable operations have positioned it as a reliable refuge for the public. Over the years, the organization has developed strategies to address issues in five main areas:
The first focus is on improving operational efficiency in resolving grievances swiftly and proactively, especially those affecting the general public. The goal is to address systemic problems effectively.
Secondly, enhancing the organizational structure and management practices is prioritized. By integrating modern digital technology, the Ombudsman aims to improve complaint handling, fact-finding, decision-making, and result monitoring, aspiring to become a completely digital organization.
The third area involves building a network of good governance organizations to mitigate practices causing public distress or injustice.
Fourthly, the Ombudsman is committed to adapting to global changes, including those related to globalization and human rights, ensuring its operations remain relevant.
Lastly, the organization places people at the center of its operations, working closely with government agencies to address public grievances and injustices.
Since its inception in 2000, the Ombudsman Office has received 63,664 complaints from citizens. Out of these, 61,062 cases have been resolved, marking a completion rate of 95.91%, while 2,602 cases are still under processing.
