Nong Khai: The Secretary-General of the ONCB has issued a warning about ‘Molly’, a highly dangerous ecstasy drug mixed with methamphetamine, following the seizure of 130,000 pills at a border crossing in Nong Khai Province.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanurat Lakboon, the Secretary-General of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, cautioned parents, guardians, and the general public after a significant batch of ‘Molly’ drugs was confiscated at a border checkpoint. This emerging drug is considered deadly due to its high methamphetamine content.
On May 11, ONCB officers, along with Nong Khai Customs and other relevant agencies, apprehended Ms. Namwan, a Lao national. She was found with 137,385 ‘Molly’ ecstasy pills hidden in a Toyota Vios while crossing the Nong Khai border at the 1st Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge. The drugs, resembling the ‘Molly’ doll popular among teenagers, were in various colors and stamped with the word ‘Molly’ to attract and entice users.
The data indicates that the ‘Molly’ ecstasy currently circulating is mixed with methamphetamine and ecstasy (MDMA), increasing the complexity and risk of its effects. This combination makes the drug highly dangerous and potentially fatal.
The ONCB Secretary-General urged the public, particularly youth and parents, to remain vigilant against new forms of drugs like ‘Molly’, which may appear as colorful candy or toys. He stressed that all drugs pose a threat to health and society. The public is encouraged to report any information on illegal drug distribution, storage, or involvement to the ONCB hotline at 1386, available 24 hours a day. All reports will be treated confidentially to help prevent and address the drug problem sustainably.
