ONCB Promotes Drug Prevention Through Executive Function Skills in Eua Aree Community

Bangkok: The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) recently visited the Eua Aree community in Suan Luang to observe initiatives aimed at enhancing Executive Function (EF) skills as a model for drug prevention efforts.

According to Thai News Agency, the ONCB Secretary-General showcased the Eua Aree Community Preschool Development Center as a leading example in implementing drug prevention strategies through EF skills. This approach integrates cultural practices within the Thai-Muslim community, utilizing a national action plan that emphasizes early childhood awareness.

Pol. Col. Suriya Singhakamol, along with Ms. Paphasri Khainan and other ONCB executives, visited the center to witness these activities firsthand. Representatives from the RLG Institute also contributed by presenting academic insights on EF teaching methods and the results of previous collaborations with the ONCB. These efforts have positioned the Eua Aree Community Preschool Development Center as a model for drug prevention through effective skill-building.

The center's approach connects families with educational institutions to create a safe society foundation. It leverages the Mother of the Land Fund mechanism to enhance drug prevention sustainably within the multicultural Thai-Muslim community.

A knowledge-sharing forum was also conducted, where Ms. Sopha Mudlang, the center's head, shared insights on the local challenges that led to the adoption of EF skills. She highlighted the positive changes in children and the crucial role of family involvement. Parents also observed improvements in their children and discussed strategies to ensure the community remains a safe space.

This initiative aligns with the national policy on drug prevention, suppression, and resolution (2023-2027), focusing on building resilience against drug abuse in early childhood by utilizing EF skills as a foundational tool.
