Nakhon Phanom:Soldiers and border patrol officers successfully seized one million methamphetamine pills during a raid on a drug gang along the Mekong River. The drug traffickers abandoned the drugs and fled the scene, prompting authorities to expand their investigation to track down the remaining members of the gang.
According to Thai News Agency, the operation involved the Royal Thai Army's 2nd Army Area Command, the Narcotics Suppression and Precursor Chemical Command (NSPC 24), and the Surasakmontri Task Force. This collaboration included the Upper Narcotics Interdiction Section of the 1st Control Command (3rd Infantry Regiment), the 235th Border Patrol Police Task Force, and infantry companies from the Surasakmontri Task Force, alongside other security agencies in the area.
The raid took place at approximately 500 AM when officials discovered a suspicious object on the banks of the Mekong River in Ban Na Tham, Phra Klang Thung Subdistrict, That Phanom District. Upon inspection, the object was identified as a Category 1 narcotic, methamphetamine, packed in 10 sacks, totaling about 1,000,000 pills. It is believed that the smugglers may have been alerted and fled before the officials arrived.
Following the seizure, all confiscated items were taken to the Border Patrol Police Task Force Company 235 for detailed counting before being transferred to Lak Sila Police Station for further legal proceedings. No perpetrators were found or arrested during the operation. This seizure is part of an ongoing effort to intercept drug trafficking along the Mekong River border and prevent drugs from entering the country's interior.
