Bangkok: Drivers will soon have the opportunity to renew their licenses online, eliminating the need to visit the Department of Land Transport. This new regulation will be implemented starting March 4, 2026, providing a streamlined process for eligible drivers.
According to Thai News Agency, a recently approved ministerial regulation allows for the online renewal of driver's licenses without requiring additional competency or health assessments. The target group for this initiative includes individuals aged 55 or younger, whose current driver's licenses have either not expired or have been expired for no more than one year. Eligible individuals can apply for renewal through an electronic system and will not need to complete the traditional physical fitness tests, such as eyesight and reaction assessments.
The process involves two key steps to ensure successful online renewal. First, drivers must undergo online training through the DLT e-Learning system, where they must register, complete content viewing, and pass an online test. Successful completion of this training will be documented, and drivers are advised to save a screenshot or file of their results. The training can be accessed via the website www.dlt-elearning.com.
The second step requires drivers to book an appointment using the DLT Smart Queue system. This platform will facilitate advance booking and application status checks. Transactions from 2026 onwards will primarily be handled through the associated app, available on both the App Store and Play Store by searching for "DLT Smart Queue." More information can be found at gecc.dlt.go.th.
It's important to note that drivers whose licenses have been expired for more than a year, or those over the age of 55, will need to undergo additional competency tests at the Department of Land Transport to renew their licenses.
