Tashkent: The opposition leader gave a speech to young Thai parliamentarians on the world stage, confirming that Thailand is still strong from the earthquake and is ready to welcome everyone, emphasizing that it is ready to perform its duty to monitor the government so that workers are not abandoned.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, as an MP, delivered a speech on behalf of the Young Members of Parliament at the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and other related official meetings in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, from April 4 to 11, 2025. He expressed his condolences for the earthquake in Myanmar, where both Thailand and Myanmar were affected by the most severe earthquake in many years. He expressed his deepest condolences to the people of both countries, confirming that the overall situation in Thailand has returned to normal, and Thailand remains strong and ready to welcome everyone at all times.
The Thai opposition leader also sees the tragedies in both Myanmar and Thailand as reminders of the fragility of life and the urgent need for social justice, especially since the majority of the victims were construction workers, both Thai and foreign. He emphasized his duty as a member of parliament to legislate and scrutinize the government’s administration, adhering to the principle of justice, to ensure that construction workers who build the country are not left behind.
Additionally, the Thai opposition leader stated that Thailand is pushing for decentralization of education to the local level, allowing schools and local administrative organizations the freedom to learn and manage learning appropriately to their own local contexts. The Thai parliament has also passed a bill prohibiting violent punishment of children. He expressed hope that some of the efforts presented would inspire parliamentarians from other countries attending the meeting. As representatives of the people, they are urged to push society forward towards sustainable and just development, especially at a time when the world is facing serious trade changes.
