According to Thai News Agency, September 1st has been officially designated as "Ginger Cat Appreciation Day," a celebration established by Chris Roy, a former American software developer who transitioned into an animal rights activist. The day is dedicated to promoting the love and care for orange cats and addressing the issue of abandoned stray cats. Statistics indicate that orange cats are the second most abandoned breed, following black cats.

The inception of this special day dates back to 1997 when Chris Roy encountered a stray orange cat near his residence. Struck by compassion, he decided to temporarily shelter the cat. Over time, the bond with the feline deepened, leading Roy to adopt it permanently, bestowing it with the name 'Doobert.' This orange cat became a source of immense joy and companionship for Roy over the next 17 years.

In 2014, the passing of Doobert marked a turning point for Chris Roy. Motivated by the loss, he founded International Orange Cat Day on September 1st to honor his cherished companion and highlight the importance of appreciating other orange cats.

To further his mission, Roy launched an application named 'Doobert,' aimed at connecting animal shelters, volunteers, and potential adopters globally. As of now, the platform partners with over 1,200 animal rescue organizations across North America and boasts a robust network of more than 27,000 volunteers dedicated to animal welfare.
