Bangkok: Pairoj Lohsuntorn is prepared to undertake his role as the interim Speaker of the House, overseeing the critical vote for the Speaker and Deputy Speakers scheduled for today. The procedural activities are anticipated to span approximately three hours.
According to Thai News Agency, Pairoj, a Pheu Thai Party list MP, will preside over the parliamentary session dedicated to the selection of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers. Prior to engaging in the session, it is mandated that the oath of office be administered. Pairoj remarked that the preparations for managing the session adhere to established standard procedures.
In response to inquiries regarding the duration of the session, Mr. Pairoj expressed that he anticipates the process will require a substantial amount of time. He clarified that in the event of a contested vote, candidates for both positions would need to present their visions, with each voting process expected to conclude within a three-hour timeframe.
When questioned about his sentiments on assuming the role of Speaker of the House, Mr. Pairoj acknowledged that his selection was due to his status as the most senior member of the House, at 90 years old.
