Pakamon Nunanan Criticizes Prime Minister for Evasion in Civil Service Exam Corruption Scandal

Bangkok: Pakamon Nunanan, a party-list MP from the People's Party, has openly criticized the Prime Minister for allegedly evading responsibility in the corruption scandal surrounding local government recruitment exams. She underscored the need for political courage in addressing the issue and questioned the influence of Narucha Khosasilai, the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, who has faced numerous charges but remains undismissed. Pakamon emphasized that accountability should not solely fall on those at the end of the chain.

According to Thai News Agency, Pakamon expressed skepticism towards the Prime Minister's reaction, describing him as seemingly shocked by the scandal, unlike the general public who were already aware. She suggested this could be a chance for decisive action, noting the dismissal of the current Director-General of the Department of Local Administration. Pakamon insists that the investigation should encompass the entire process, tracing back to the prior transfers of two former Directors-General, and scrutinizing Narucha's role, particularly his involvement in the document manipulation of the exam process.

Pakamon stressed the importance of not allowing lower-level individuals to bear the brunt of the consequences alone. She called for accountability from those whose signatures appear on critical documents. She also highlighted the need for fairness towards civil servants who assumed their roles amidst the scandal, pointing out their inevitable awareness of an impending investigation.

She questioned Narucha's continued presence in his position despite the scandal, noting that society is increasingly questioning his influence and lack of accountability. Pakamon also criticized the Prime Minister for canceling the comprehensive investigation, asserting that political courage and responsibility are essential to address the long-standing corruption issue. She urged the Prime Minister to clarify the root of the corruption and demonstrate a genuine commitment to resolving the problem, emphasizing that sweeping allegations under the rug is not an option.
