Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilapraphan has voiced a strong stance on the necessity of distinguishing religious principles from the behaviors of individual monks. His comments come in the wake of the arrest of Mr. Atichot, who faces serious charges of embezzlement and sexual misconduct, sparking deep concern among the Buddhist community.

According to Thai News Agency, Pakorn expressed his inability to accept the actions of Atichot, highlighting the emotional impact on Buddhists across the nation. He underscored that the core issue lies not in the absence of laws but in the management of personal desires and discipline among monks. In response, Pakorn has directed the National Office of Buddhism to implement a centralized accounting system for temples as a preventive measure against corruption and misconduct.

Furthermore, Pakorn clarified that religious artifacts, such as amulets, are based on personal belief and have no bearing on the current legal case. He urged the public to avoid spreading or sharing any images associated with the incident, aiming to maintain respect and decorum amidst the ongoing investigation.
