Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilapraphan has voiced concerns over the media's selective quoting, which he claims has led to confusion regarding the government's stance on issuing an emergency decree for borrowing money. Pakorn clarified that his comments were meant to explain the legal framework and not to instigate political discourse.
According to Thai News Agency, Pakorn emphasized that the emergency decree for borrowing money was not discussed in the recent Cabinet meeting. He reiterated that his role is not politically driven but focused on legal interpretations for the benefit of the public. He responded to inquiries about the possibility of issuing an emergency decree for borrowing money under Section 172, explaining the legal procedures involved.
Pakorn addressed rumors about the government considering an emergency decree for borrowing, which surfaced after Finance Minister Lavaron Saengsnit denied any such government directive. He clarified that his explanations were misconstrued as confirmation of a loan, leading to public criticism.
He expressed his concerns about media misinterpretations, pointing out that selective quoting could lead to misunderstandings. Pakorn stated that discussions about national issues should be grounded in reason and not used sensationally. He reiterated his commitment to providing legal knowledge, distancing himself from political involvement.
Pakorn also highlighted that the Cabinet requires further discussion on the matter, as noted by Minister Paradorn Prisnanantakul. Despite being pressed about a 500 billion baht figure, Pakorn maintained that he was merely responding to a hypothetical question and directed questions to the Ministry of Finance for specific details.
He assured that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul had not reprimanded him for his statements, understanding them as legal clarifications rather than political commentary. Pakorn invited those interested in the legal aspects to engage in discussions but refrained from commenting on political matters, emphasizing the need for careful economic planning.
Pakorn concluded by expressing his intention to focus on benefiting the public and avoiding political entanglements. He stressed the importance of educating society on legal matters rather than being drawn into politicized debates.
